The Shanghai Auto Museum is about 2,5 kilometers from the hotel. I visited there together with Mikael who was a perfect guide to museum about cars. I myself am not so interested in cars but Mikael’s enthusiasm was catching and it was nice to have someone well-informed to share his knowledge. It was almost like having a real museum guide.
One thing that was quite surprising, amusing and also a little bit annoying was that there seemed to be a lot of Chinese visitors who didn't care about "Do not touch!" -signs and were laying their hand on the museum cars and posing for photographs standing on the platforms.
Almost all of the information in the museum is also in English and in some other languages (German and Japanese maybe, I can’t remember). Some of the interactive games are only in Chinese. There is a lot to see for couple hours: historical cars, interactive information about car technology and games for the kids.
Ticket for adult is 60 RMB and for students 40 RMB. They accepted ISIC-student card, when I had it with me.
Next to the museum there is a nice large park where people are playing, flying kites and having picnic.
